The City of Glen Dale is seeking a dependable and motivated individual to fill the position of Water & Wastewater Operator. This position supports both the Water and Sanitary Departments and is responsible for assisting in the operation, maintenance, repair, compliance, and reporting functions necessary to ensure safe and reliable water and sewer services for the community.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform all required water system reporting and sampling in compliance with regulations set by the West Virginia Department of Health, West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection, and the United States Environmental Protection Agency.
  • Collect water and wastewater samples and maintain accurate documentation and operational records.
  • Assist with water line breaks, sewer line repairs, and related emergency maintenance.
  • Operate, monitor, and maintain water and wastewater system equipment.
  • Perform routine inspection, maintenance, and repair of pumps, motors, controls, electrical systems, and piping systems.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical and electrical issues and apply proper repair methods.
  • Follow established safety procedures and industry best practices.
  • Participate in an on-call rotation and respond to emergencies as required.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Water and Sanitary Boards.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Mechanical aptitude and strong troubleshooting skills required.
  • Knowledge of electrical systems, pumps, motors, controls, and piping systems preferred.
  • Water and Wastewater operator certification preferred (or ability to obtain within a specified timeframe).
  • Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting, digging, and working outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Valid driver’s license required.
  • Must be willing to be on call and respond to after-hours emergencies.

Working Conditions

  • Outdoor work in varying weather conditions.
  • Exposure to water and wastewater system environments.
  • On-call status required, including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
